FAMILY ALBUM is the second exhibition from Archives of Resistance: Northern Migration showcasing a selection of photographs and stories in Archivo de la Memoria Trans/Archive of Trans Memory (ATM) from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This exhibition illustrates narratives of friendship, love, resistance and hardship narrated by the Trans women in this community. This collection of photographs, mainly from the 1980s, gives us insight into the lives of the Argentine Trans community before the Gender Identity Law was passed in 2012. Prior to this law, it was illegal to cross-dress in Argentina despite the visibility of Trans women in carnival parades. Today, Trans people in Argentina have the legal right to live their true identities thanks to the mobilization and perseverance that the older generation of Trans people suffered in Argentina. Many of the Trans women featured in this exhibition were exiled or have passed away. Here are some of their stories.
